SUSTAINABILITY IB

Sustainability (or sustainable development) is, arguably, the most pressing societal challenge today. It has become a major factor in decision making of many companies employing chemical engineering graduates. This course will examine the foundation principles of sustainability, the concept of life cycle and its adoption in industry, the concept of circular economy and its implications for chemical industry, and the more challenging topic of sustainability as a complex systems problem.

Achieving the state of sustainability is seen as a critical societal challenge. It is a major factor in decision making in most industries employing chemical engineering graduates. This course is focused on enumeration of environmental impacts of chemical technologies and on understanding the role of chemical products/processes in interactions with the environment as part of the common complex system.
